Francesco Ruggiero, Graduated cum laude in Mechanical engineering.
Researcher since 1996, is currently Associate Professor of Environmental Physics at the Polytechnic of Bari since 2004.
Professor of Environmental Physics I and II at the degree course in Architecture at the Polytechnic of Bari. Since 1996 he taught courses given in the Engineering and Architecture Faculty on Technical Physics, Acoustic and lighting, HVAC in buildings, bioclimatic Architecture
Supervisor of several thesis and PhD thesis, invited speaker and lecturer in congresses, workshops, training courses, postgraduate Schools, other PhD programs, specialization courses, Masters of I and II levels

From April 1990 to February 1991: at the Institutes of Technical Physics and the Institute for Machine and Energy at Polytechnic of Bari.
From February 1991 to March 1992: engineer at the "Refrigeration Buiness Unit" at the Division International Europe of the Société TRANE of Epinal (France): factory testing, assembly and marketing of refrigeration units for small, medium and great power.
- From March 1992 to January 1995: engineer at GENERAL PLANNING Srl - Via Vigoni, 8 - Milan: design, construction supervision and testing in the field of civil and industrial plant engineering and energy production.
- From January 1995 to February 1996: Fellow of IRIS-CNR of Bari research and experimentation in the field of thermotechnics and acoustics.
Scientific activity
He has focused his research work on:
- the use of renewable energy, through the analysis of energy potentials and the technical and economic feasibility of the plants, with particular reference to local context. Biomasses, solid urban waste, animal waste, wind power, energy self-sufficiency from renewable sources , assessing the different types of plant and considering the environmental aspects related to energy production in the new energy market.
-the validation of predictive models of thermal comfort, according to the methodology described in the ISO Standards.
-the field of energy saving, reduction of the emissions in the urban environment and bioclimatic architecture through collaboration with the colleagues of DICAR and University of Basilicata. Particular highlights were the surveys on the vernacular settlement of the Sassi di Matera and the studies of the thermos-physical properties of the local stone. Currently, the research is focused on the energy savings of public buildings and social houses and there are interesting collaborations with the Housing Institute of Puglia Region.
